Information
Analytical chemistry has been at the forefront of green chemistry and sustainability since before these were important scientific concepts, with chromatography at the heart of industrial chemical analysis, especially for pharmaceuticals and drugs, for decades. As interest in green and sustainable chemistry increases, so does our interest in making chromatographic analysis and related techniques greener. In this symposium, we will examine the current state and future of chromatography and green analytical chemistry as they apply to pharmaceutical and drug analysis. We will see that old assumptions and ideas that form the basis of current chromatographic method development strategies should be re-examined in both educational and industrial venues. Our speakers include academic and industrial scientists and entrepreneurs who are top researchers and scholars and who work in several areas of chromatographic science. One challenge to be specifically addressed in this symposium is how are cutting-edge methods, which are not green or easy to scale (this is what makes them cutting-edge) can be modified or scaled to wider use in quality assurance and other high throughput laboratories. Further, we examine how we can redefine classical molds of education and thinking about chromatographic and related methods toward greener and more sustainable chemical analysis.
