The Analysis of Flavones in Hemp Extracts by LC/QTOFMS with Accurate Mass

Fifteen flavones, including Cannflavin A and B, were analyzed by LC/QTOF-MS and MS-MS fragmentation studies using classical fragmentation trees. Then the method was applied to both hemp plants and extracts to determine the major flavones present. Two types of hemp plants variants were analyzed, River Rock and Cherry Wine. The hemp plants showed a variety of flavones, most of which were not present in various over the counter extracts for CBD using a retrospective analysis procedure with LC/QTOF-MS. Cannflavin A was a major component in both plant and plant extracts, including some of the over-the-counter extracts. The relevance of these flavones will be discussed as they pertain to various ascribed nutritional effects, such as found in advertisements of various hemp related products.
